Kursi

Every year, during my hikes in the mountains of Nepal, I would witness porters carrying an insurmountable weight of construction materials and household items on their backs. This experience prompted me to explore the reasons behind this phenomenon and question, “Why?” This formed the basis of my master’s final project.

“Kursi” is a project aimed at tackling the challenges unique to Nepal’s mountainous regions, encompassing production, transportation, ergonomics, and aesthetics. After extensive research and careful consideration of feasibility and time constraints, I narrowed my focus to the furniture used in the lodges. This led me to formulate the following concise project brief:

“Design a piece of furniture that can be constructed using the technology available in Nepal. This furniture piece should not only surpass the existing design norms but also capture the essence of the region’s aesthetics and craftsmanship.”

WHY?

Growing number of tourists = Increase in construction of Lodges
